CUSTOMS INFORMATION – KUWAIT

We require consignee’s passport copy (picture page), Kuwait Civil Id Copy, Temporary Work Entry Visa Copy (Stamped by Kuwait immigration upon arrival to the country – AIR FRT), Company Authorization Letter (Format to be provided). If the shipment includes Private Owned Vehicle not more than 5 years old (Which only Kuwaiti Nationals can import), there will be 5% customs Duty applicable based on CIF value of the vehicle (As per the prevailing market rate) or the cost of which will depend on the value of the car provided by the client. Following documents are required 3 days prior to arrival of Used HHGS shipment:
  • Express B/L copy (Must state USED HOUSEHOLD GOODS).
  • Copy of Packing list.
  • Original/ Colored copy of Export Bayan from origin (For inter GCC moves only). 
  • Original invoice – for New HHGS Items (Customs duty at 5% of CIF value will be applicable).
  • Old / Used HHGS may also attract 5% customs duty ascertained by the customs officials.
  • Clients Passport Copy – Picture page.
  • Client’s Civil ID copy – Front and reverse.
  • In case of Civil ID not being ready at the time of shipment arrival, the client will require a copy of his Work Permit and Original Passport for the customs approval.
  • A client’s presence is mandatory for the customs approval process.
Following documents are required 3 days prior to arrival of the Private Owned Vehicle shipments for Kuwaiti Nationals (Expats CAN NOT import vehicle into Kuwait): 
  • Express B/L copy
  • Original Certificate of Title – for vehicle.
  • Original invoice (with value) – for vehicle.
  • Client’s Passport Copy
  • Client’s Kuwait civil id copy – Front and Reverse.
  • Original/ Colored copy of Bayan / Certificate (For inter GCC moves)

Re-registration of the car must be handled personally by the client.

The cargo description on the BL should correctly show the make/model of the vehicle, color, chassis & engine number. ALL DETAILS MENTIONED ON THE BL SHOULD BE CORRECT.  As for Groupage – Groupage / LCL shipments must be forwarded via a NVOCC consolidator in a Groupage box. In case there are 2 or more Groupage/LCL shipments being shipped together in an FCL, then please consign the shipment to the client who has the maximum volume in the container. This client’s shipment must be loaded near the door of the container. Suitable markings and partitions for all shipments should be done carefully and correctly segregating each shipment loaded. Clients presence will be mandatory during custom inspection. As for unaccompanied air freight – Client’s presence might be required during customs inspection.    Following documents are required 2 days prior to arrival of the shipment: 
  • MAWB copy (Must Not state Co-Load) 
  • Passport copy – Picture page 
  • Kuwait civil id – Original 
  • Temporary Work Entry Visa Copy (Stamped by Kuwait immigration upon arrival to the country, incase Civil Id is not ready at the time of shipment arrival). 
  • Packing List
  • Customs duty of 5% of CIF value may be applicable.
Customs Clearance period: Sea imports Personal Effects via LCL/FCL sea freight take approx. 5 to 8 working days.  Clearance will take the whole day and delivery the next day.   Air import Personal effects take approx. 2-4 working days.  Shipment with motor vehicle:  4-5 working days, handover outside port, delivery via tow truck USD 200/unit vehicle (re-registration of the car must be handled personally by client) Should the shipment arrive on Thursday, Friday or Saturday which is the weekend in the Middle East including public holidays where public govt offices are closed as well, there will be a possibility of delay in customs clearance and chances of storage/demurrage.
  • All importation of Personal Effects is being put through an x-ray scanning during Customs clearance thus avoid the following items in the shipment: Combustible liquids like alcohol, lubricants, anti-freeze compounds, explosives lie fireworks, flashbulbs, ammunition of any kinds.
  • Compressed Gas like aerosol cans, fire extinguishers, scuba diving tanks, propane (BBQ) tanks
  • Raw   Wood   Materials    like   jungle   gym/swing    set/outdoor    sheds, untreated shelving/loose wood/craft wood, untreated furniture
  • Flammables like gasoline, butane, propane, lighter fluid, perfume/cologne, matches,
  • oil based wood stains, oil-based garden sprays, paint, varnish remover, charcoal briquettes, signal flares, candles (with or without wick)
  • Live plants, dried flowers/plants, chemicals, poisons, seeds, fresh fruits, No Foods at all which includes all types/kinds of alcoholic beverages including medicine.
  • Items that are offensive to Islamic faith
  • Candles – such items will easily melt/deformed during transit or while container is sitting inside the port for clearance during peak Summertime (July – September). Client must be fully aware of the extreme climate temperature.
Failure to adhere to the above would lead to delays, customs penalties, or the possibility of returning the shipment to Origin country and charges of which will have to be borne by the Shipper/owner/origin agent responsible.  Please Do not Dispatch the Shipment Without our Green Light.
